Summers almost here and making me think about stripes...cabanas and awnings and beach umbrellas, but other things come to mind as well...

These cabanas are on a beach in Dinard, France.
A painting of the same beach from about 1907 with yellow striped cabanas, by Clarence Alphonse Gagnon (1881-1942), a Canadian artist.
This is a picture from about 1926, showing Gerald and Sara Murphy with friends on La Garoupe Beach, Antibes, and an iconic beach cabana.

This smiling girl is modeling a red and white striped shirt made by Marimekko. The Jokapoika shirt was designed in 1956 by Vuokko Nurmesniemi and has been in production ever since.
One of my favorite stripes, "Gent's Stripe", in coral from John Robishaw, available to the trade at Thomas Lavin in Los Angeles.

This striped cover of Domus is from April 1930. It's a beautiful composition. I can imagine it as the design for a storefront. Domus was founded by Gio Ponti in 1928.
A few years ago I received this David Hockney drawing on a gallery invitation from Louver Gallery in Venice, Ca. Ever since I've wanted to find a place for a red and white wide striped sofa!
